Fingerprints, Queens Road, Leicester
A hot day is rare in Britain especially in March, so we decided to head to Victoria Park and just explore some of Leicester's History. People say we visit the world but don't see the beauty of where we live. Anyways back to talking about food, when it came to what to have for lunch a walk down Queens Road was all we needed, the perfect option being it across from the park. A little odd during Covid times but we still had some great vibes with everyone enjoying themselves and it was like people almost forgot about the virus, which in my eyes it's the way we should live. We didn't walk very far before stopping at a café, as we walked in to take a closer look at the menu, we were greeted by a friendly face who really helped with making our choice. Even though the menu was scattered and writing over a large blackboard, the guy serving us really made everything easier. There was plenty of options for veggies and vegans and they were even prepared to make adjustments from anything on the menu. A little like mix and match or make it up as you go along all just to suit our dietary requirements, which made me an even more happier as a customer. This is what I liked about the place, a friendly and inviting atmosphere as well as the fact they do breakfast which is served all day, so even more reason for me to go back for more, for sure!
Right decision had been made, Rakesh went for the spinach and cheese roll made from pastry with a side salad, lovely simple dressing as I recalled. I went in thinking I wanted some sort of falafel dish like a wrap but I saw they had vegan chilli on a bed on nachos and my mind was made up, I couldn't say no to nachos! So as Rakesh also wanted nachos, they threw in an extra helping so we got a rather large portion. Only slight downfall is the price but as we ate the food, it was too good and was worth the price. Forget 'KFC' this vegan feast was definitely finger licking good, nachos with chilis can be a messy eat indoor and out but we found nearest bench, parked ourselves there and made the bench our table. Messy eat but any excuse to lick my fingers! The spinach and cheese roll was mediocre in taste but like I mentioned earlier the simple dressing on the salad, really refreshed the mouth with a tangy, creamy taste. My dish on the other hand was delicious, the chili was made with soya mince, it was thick, in texture, sat well on the nachos and bursting with flavour. A blend of well-balanced spices it seemed, definitely the Mexican flavour. It was like these chilis that are seen on tv cooking shows, where they cook the meat that stews in the pot for such a long time that the meat breaks down and becomes thick and intakes all the flavours. Chili like curries and many other dishes taste better the longer they cook in the spices and it penetrates into the dish overnight. It’s not the spices as in heat that make the dish better but it’s the flavour of spices that intensifies the dish, I believe that is what turns an average dish into amazing dish. Just beautiful!
Walk along Queens Road guys and gals, there are a handful of boutique food places with amazing delights but recommended not to walk past Fingerprints!
