Bells Tea House, Steep Hill, Lincoln
Often when you go up a steep hill, take many steps to enjoy a good view of a city, or a coastal place it simply takes your breath away. In our case we enjoy some lovely cake and tea.
In a historic part of Lincoln just a stones’ throw away from Lincoln cathedral and Lincoln Castle is a really quaint tea shop. It certainly takes you back in time; it has a wide variety of foods from breakfast, lunch and afternoon.
On this particular day Krupa and I came to Lincoln on a day trip, away from the main centre is a historic part of Lincoln, and most notably a very steep hill. Certainly tests your stamina.
What was amazing is that Krupa and I managed to go up the hill twice. As it was approaching tea time (roughly around 4pm) and the other tea shops were closed, we saw this beautiful old building that had been maintained well. We noticed it was a tearoom in a Tudor style building.
We were greeted with smiles by the staff. The décor was very traditional, yet bright with white brick walls. Just had so many little touches everywhere, which made it feel olde worlde.
We chose a cake each and shared a slice each (Krupa and I certainly do not share our desserts usually). We chose a chocolate cake, lemon cake (we both had a slice each), a pot of tea for Krupa, I had a hot chocolate. The cake slices were absolutely terrific. Soft but not dry, sweet but not too sweet, the chocolate cake was not too rich either. Perfectly moist as well. So delicious, divine and delightful. Could not get enough of it and the portion was a good size. I could’ve devoured all the slices they had left.
The tea was light and refreshing, from what I recall the hot chocolate was beautiful. You could taste the quality in the chocolate that was used. The perfect afternoon tea in a traditional tea house and a great reward to going up the steep hill twice.
